My Mission: Giving my family a better future and honoring them.
Being the oldest daughter in a low income immigrant household comes with a unique set of responsibilities and expectations. My family and I have been here for now 20 years. When my parents brought my sister and I here in hopes of a better future they never realized just how much they would have to give up. Growing up, I often found myself balancing the traditions of my Mexican heritage with the pressures of adapting to a new life in a foreign country. My parents were always working hard to create a better future for us, and often times relied on me to help bridge the gap between the two worlds.
And although we had our struggles one things that was always present in our daily live was food. Every night my entire family would come together at the dining table to talk about whatever we wanted. Even when out there in the real world it would feel like we were climbing a never ending hill those moments in the table were our sanctuary. And in the heart of all of that was food. Every dish was made with love and the flavors of Mexico, reminding us of our roots.
As I grew older, I realized that these flavors, were not only a part of me but they were a part of each and every single person that has had to leave a place they once called home. Often times having to conform to something that is similar to what they used to have, but no matter how much one searches it will always fell like maybe something is missing. That’s when the idea of starting a food business took shape, with the goal of bringing back those flavors and the rich tastes of Mexico, while honoring my family’s legacy.
I want to bring back the flavors that shaped my childhood—mouthwatering tortas, refreshing aguas frescas, and the comfort of a home-cooked meal—and create a space where those flavors tell the story of a loving family, ones childhood, the importance of remembering our roots, and hopefully bring the next generation a taste of their roots.
